What is the NAIT AR Museum?
The NAIT AR Museum is one of the Capstone projects for the winter 2026 semester of the Digital Media and Information Technology program and the final capstone project for the 2026 graduating class at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
The museum showcases historical information and student work related to NAIT, the client institution, and combines efforts from the Game Design, Animation, and Game Programming streams of the DMIT program.
Content submissions from both the team and the student population of DMIT are accepted into the museum, as this showcase was created to showcase a variety of student work to celebrate creative and academic achievement across the department. The museum includes 3D models, graphic design, 3D and 2D animation, and both traditional and digital illustration.
The goal of the team
As a team, our goal is to bring a scaled model of the third floor of the HP Centre on NAIT’s main campus to life with displays of student work to celebrate the talent and artistry of the DMIT students.
Beyond that, our goal is to prove that augmented reality can be a boon to museum and gallery style exhibitions by bringing a digital twist to traditional institutions.
What Inspired this project?
This project was created by Chris Pettigrew for this year’s Digital Media and Information Technology Capstone projects on behalf of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Our client’s aim is to create a virtual museum for the showcasing of student work and information about the institution.
At present, we have a working model of our museum space and our artists are busily filling it with assets.
My Role in Production
As team lead, my role has encompassed a variety of tasks, including asset management, exhibit consolidation, graphic design for information plaques, UX/UI design for the app’s setting menu including volume sliders, background design, mute buttons, and pause and play buttons, as well as voiceover narration as a built-in accessibility feature for those who may struggle to read the information plaques.
In addition, my responsibilities include facilitating twice-weekly team meetings and client meetings to ensure the project is running smoothly and that there are no miscommunications, as well as presentations to the other Capstone teams when it came time for our team to begin soliciting content submissions from our fellow students across DMIT.
